Hightlights of September, 2024

September 2024 marked a special milestone for our school garden as it reopened its doors after a long hiatus due to COVID-19 lockdowns. It was a joy to welcome back our young gardeners and introduce them to the wonders of nature.

The first group of visitors were treated to a delightful harvest of fresh cherry tomatoes and strawberries, straight from our garden. Their excitement and joy as they picked and tasted the fruits of their labor was heartwarming.

We also expanded our garden with the addition of three mandarin trees. These new additions will not only provide shade and beauty but also offer delicious fruit in the future

We planted three variety: Gold Nugget, Shiranui (Sumo), and Owari Satsuma.

One of the highlights of the month was the discovery of a tomato hornworm. These fascinating creatures, though often considered pests, amazed the children with their size and appearance

As we look ahead to October, our volunteers will be piloting seed-starting activities with a few selected classes. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the life cycle of plants and experience the joy of nurturing their own seedlings.

We're excited to continue sharing the magic of gardening with our students and look forward to many more wonderful experiences in the months to come.
